On December 5, 2018 Ilia State University Book House “Ligamus” hosted a public lecture “Myths and Reality on Sign Language”.  Professor Marina Milkovich, Professor of Zagreb University, delivered a public lecture in the framework of EU funded ERSMUS + project: ABC – Assisting Better Communication.

Public lecture was attended by students of Ilia State University, high school representatives, as well as by professionals working in field of hearing disorders and representatives of civil organizations.

After the lecture, a discussion was held about the stereotypes of sign language in Georgia and other countries, and the ways to overcome it.

On 26th and 17th December, 2019, interdisciplinary meetings were held at Frontline Club and Ilia State University. The meeting aimed discussing professional ethics and professional regulation, the issues of communication in the field of language and speech therapy. The meeting was attended by students and lecturers of Communication Language and Speech Therapy Masters Program, as well as field practitioners and invited neuropsychologists and psycho-linguists.

As a part of Erasmus + project „Assisting Better Communication“, training at the Resource Center “Ray of Hope” in Foca was held on the topic “ASSESSMENT AND INTERVENTIONS FOR IMPROVING COMMUNICATION IN CHILDREN”. The training was held for the parents of children with disabilities who are users of the services of the Center “Ray of Hope”, as well as the parents of the children of the typical development.

The aim of this education is to acquire theoretical and practical knowledge and skills for parents to properly assess the abilities and needs of their children in communication, as well as how to introduce daily routines that will improve the communication of children, and how to behave in situations of conflict behavior.

Education was approved by the Ministry of Education and culture  of Republika Srpska, BiH.

In the framework of the Erasmus + project “Assisting Better Communication”, 9.10.2018. at 18.00h in the “Kaleidoscope” Hall, a public lecture “Dis lekcija” was held. The lecture was organized on the occasion of the International Day of Dislexics with the aim of spreading awareness of what dyslexia is, how to recognize dyslexic people and how to support them. The lecture is organized in cooperation with the Faculty of Education and Rehabilitation at the University of Tuzla within the EU Erasmus + project “Assisting Better Communication”, the Academy of Arts of Novi
Sad, the Culture Center of Tuzla with the support of the City of Tuzla within the Grant for Youth 2018. Speakers at the public lecture were:
– Dr.sc Mirela Duranović, Full Professor
– Parent of dyslexic children, person with dyslexia, teacher
– Dramatic pedagogues of the Youth Theater
Nadica Jovanović Simić also participated in the organization of the public lecture as a representative of the University of East Sarajevo, partner in the ABC project from BiH. At the public lecture, work on the theather show “Alice in the Country of Letters” was announced, which is a master work by Amile Beširović, a master’s degree student at the Academy of Art of Novi Sad.

Within the Erasmus + project “Assisting Better Communication”, October 18, 2018. at the Faculty of Medicine of the University of East Sarajevo, a round table entitled “Prevention and early detection of health disorders in children and children with disabilities” was organized. The round table was attended by 60 experts from various professions: family medicine physicians, pediatricians, speech therapists, special educators and rehabilitators, nurses and kindergarten teachers from different cities of Bosnia and Herzegovina.

There were six speakers at the round table with eight lectures. The presentations were related to the early development of children, the prevention and maintenance of the health of children and children with disabilities, as well as the need and possibilities of providing patronage services. They discussed the latest findings from the field of early diagnostics and treatment, immunization, dietary and nutritional impact, as well as a multidisciplinary approach in providing health services to children with developmental disabilities.

Prof. Nadica Jovanović Simić, Ph.D., had a presentation on the topic “The importance of triage and home care services for children with developmental disorders and their families”, and “Access to autism children for health professionals”.

 As a representative of the University of Tuzla, a partner in ABC project from BiH, Prof. Dr. Mirela Agić Duranović was also present.

Round table conclusions point to the fact that much more must be done to prevent health and health disorders of children and children with disabilities, and that the system of “in home” service must be intensified. Particular emphasis was placed on the need for early diagnosis and treatment, as well as the need for health professionals,

Teaching flexibility workshop “Assisting better communication” was held in Israel, at Department of Communication Sciences and Disorders, University of Haifa and at Ono Academic College, from 12^th to 14^th February 2018. Aims of this TOT were acquiring new knowledge, insights and skills within modern development in a field of speech and language pathology and the use of information technology.

The workshop included participatory discussions of topics related to linking theory and clinical practice in a field of speech and language disorders. In Ono Academic College participants were introduced to the implementation of simulation in the curriculum of speech and language pathology study program. They actively participated in three different simulation scenarios in the area of speech and language pathology, after which a video analysis of simulations was performed.

On the ERFCON conference – 9^th International Conference of the Faculty of Education and Rehabilitation Sciences of the University of Zagreb a poster on the project of the Assissting Better Communication ABC was presented by the project team.

In June, 2017 3 days workshop was conducted in frames of ABC project at the University of Groningen. The topic of the training were: Assessment of Communication and Alternative Communication.

Representatives from Ilia State University, Georgian Portage Association, Universities of Tuzala and East-Sarajevo (Bosnia and Herzegovina), University of Haifa, Gordon and Ono Academic Colleges (Israel) were participating in the training.

The workshop was facilitated by the Head of Education and Psychology Division at the University of Groningen prof. Marleen Jansen and by the Associate Professor of the same division Saskia Damen. During the workshop a presentation on the topic of assessment and intervention of children with Autism disorders was held by the prof of the Quince University College, Sima Gerber.

In September, 2017 5 days training was conducted in frames of ABC project at the University of Aveiro. The topics of the training were: stuttering and fluency disorders, voice disorders, feeding and swallowing disorders, hearing impairments and Aphasia. The training has also covered several topics of teaching flexibility.

Representatives from Ilia State University, Batumi State University, GIPA, Georgian Portage Association, Universities of Tuzala and East-Sarajevo (Bosnia and Herzegovina), University of Haifa, Gordon and Ono Academic Colleges (Israel) were participating in the training.

Participants had a possibility to get equitant with Portuguese practical experience in field of Speech and Language Therapy by visiting several clinics and rehabilitation centers.
